Description

Gestational diabetes is high blood sugar that develops during pregnancy and occurs when the body can't produce enough insulin to overcome hormonal changes that cause insulin resistance. While all pregnant women experience some insulin resistance, a healthy pancreas can compensate, but in some cases, it can't, leading to gestational diabetes. It's diagnosed with blood tests, often between weeks 24 and 28 of pregnancy. Management includes a healthy diet, exercise, and medication if needed to lower blood sugar, which helps prevent complications and keeps both mother and baby healthy.
