Description

Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), now also called gestational hypertension, is the development of new high blood pressure in a pregnant person after the 20th week of gestation, without the signs of protein in their urine or other signs of pre-eclampsia. It typically resolves after childbirth but increases the future risk of high blood pressure and may lead to complications like low birth weight or preterm birth if severe. Diagnosis is based on blood pressure measurements, and management focuses on controlling blood pressure, with goals including antihypertensive medications, bed rest, and fetal monitoring.
